Akshay Kumar, born Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on September 9, 1967, in Amritsar, Punjab, India, is one of Bollywood's most prominent and versatile actors. His journey from a martial arts instructor to a Bollywood superstar is nothing short of inspirational.

Growing up in Delhi, Kumar showed a keen interest in sports, particularly martial arts. He trained in Taekwondo in his childhood and later studied martial arts in Bangkok, Thailand. His proficiency in martial arts earned him a black belt in Taekwondo.

Kumar's entry into the entertainment industry wasn't conventional. Initially, he worked as a chef and waiter in Bangkok. However, destiny had different plans for him. While in Bangkok, he started teaching martial arts. One of his students suggested he try modeling, which led to him receiving offers for modeling assignments.

In 1991, Akshay Kumar made his acting debut in the Bollywood film "Saugandh." Though the film didn't fare well at the box office, Kumar's potential as an actor was evident. He steadily worked his way up, appearing in a variety of films throughout the 1990s. It was his role in the action thriller "Khiladi" (1992) that earned him the nickname "Khiladi Kumar" due to his affinity for action-packed roles.

Kumar's acting prowess and versatility became more apparent as he ventured into different genres, including comedy, romance, and drama. He showcased his comic timing in films like "Hera Pheri" (2000) and "Welcome" (2007), and his versatility in films like "Dil To Pagal Hai" (1997) and "Airlift" (2016).

Beyond his acting skills, Akshay Kumar is known for his commitment to fitness and health. He often performs his stunts in movies, owing to his martial arts background and dedication to staying fit.

Apart from his contributions to cinema, Kumar is also involved in philanthropic activities. He has supported various causes, including women's empowerment, education, and disaster relief efforts. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he donated generously to the PM CARES Fund and other relief initiatives.
